Toffee Bars

So here are my directions to toffee bars with saltines because I know they can be tricking.

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter

Cook until you see a couple bubbles and boil for 3 minutes. Do not wait for it to get to a rolling boil because that is how they get burnt. Once it is done pour on your crackers on a jelly rool pan lined with foil. Bake at 350 for about 5 mins. You want to take them out when it is all bubbling and you can start to see lines in between the crackers. You can adjust the time some as long as you didn't over cook it on the stove. I made some tonight and I let them cook about 5 1/2 mins and they were perfect!

After you take them out sprinkle with milk chocolate chips. Once melted spread around and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

  1. It has been many years since I made these and my kids loved them! (I apprently liked them too since I ate more than my fair share :) Does your sugar layer get hard more like a toffee or does it stay somewhat soft? I didn't know if I had slightly undercooked mine since it never got really hard. (No worries - they were still good.)
